Are you ‘always on a diet’?
If diets never work for you, if your relationship with food causes you grief, it’s time to dig a little deeper.
If someone who’s drinking, drug-abusing or gambling, decides they want to stop, with help and given time, they can cut out the addiction completely – and never miss it.
Yet if you’re someone who eats too much, you simply cannot cut out food completely – however much you might want to. First you’d starve, then you’d die.
For people with food issues, the problem is that food has established a significance beyond simply satisfying hunger. In the grip of an inner compulsion, those who misuse food use it in a vain attempt to satisfy a psychic hunger, a hunger which remains insatiable – unless its roots are fully understood and addressed.
You’re probably familiar with the phrase ‘comfort eating’? What a misnomer! After the temporary relief, comes the lingering regret. After the temporary respite, comes the long-term remorse.
If you identify with these feelings, it’s time to re-examine your current relationship with food – to return to a simple healthy concept of food as nourishment, not a medium of control or an anaesthetic.
This is something we can work on together in hypnosis. Together we can get to the deeper root of the problem in your individual case, rather than simply try to deal with its superficial symptoms – as ‘popular’ diets do, which is why they fail so regularly.
In future, food can be the friend you respect, rather than the foe that you fear. All we have to do is adjust the balance. Harmonise the relationship. Make eating a blessing not a curse.
Just tell me when you’re ready to start!
