Low Self Esteem


Low Self-Esteem can present itself in a variety of guises.

One curious paradox is that sometimes the person suffering is the only one who really knows the inner truth of it!

Frequently, people with low Self-Esteem will over-compensate for it by appearing super-cool or highly extrovert.

In many cases, they will over-indulge in alcohol, drugs, food, work, shopping, gambling or inappropriate relationships – anything, in order to deal with their painful feelings of inadequacy.

At some level, they may still see themselves as ‘unique’ - or at least ‘very special’ - yet at the same time, they feel a sense of despair when they compare themselves unfavourably with other people.

In reality, these comparisons are often between how they feel on the inside and how other people appear on the outside.

It’s a false comparison at the best of times and a sure-fire formula for distress.
