Suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome

IBS for short.

This may not be a glamorous condition but it is extremely common.

In the Western World, it affects four times as many women as men.

Most people suffering with IBS in this country do not consult their doctor, yet 50% of all those with any gastric condition whatsoever, who are referred to a specialist, are suffering from IBS. The disconcerting fact is that independent studies have shown that “conventional medical treatment is of little proven benefit.”

In practice, hypnotherapy has a much better record.

The evidence suggests that social and cultural stigma somehow seem to create this distressing and painful condition, which can frequently lead to inappropriate medical treatment – including surgery. Typically and not surprisingly, long-term IBS sufferers are also afflicted by both anxiety and depression.

In my experience – and that of Calvin Banyan’s Hypnosis Center - there is no safer or more effective treatment for IBS than developing a more confident mental approach through a prescribed course of hypnotherapy.
